Samsung Galaxy S 2 press photo and specs leaked, Tab 2 details uncovered

Details of Samsung’s various MWC 2011 wares have leaked, ahead of the company’s big reveal tomorrow evening in Barcelona. First spotted in a low-res press shot, the Samsung Galaxy S 2 (aka Samsung Galaxy S II) was caught at Paran along with some specs, before a higher-res version of the image was dug up. Meanwhile, partial specs for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 have emerged, and we’ve thrown in some info of our own on the slate after the cut.

According to the pre-announcement info, the Galaxy S 2 runs Gingerbread on a 1GHz dual-core processor, with a 4.3-inch display – presumably Samsung’s new Super AMOLED Plus panel – and HSPA+ connectivity. There’s also WiFi a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0, and the whole thing is believed to be 116g and just 8.49mm thick.

As for the Galaxy Tab 2, as we heard yesterday that has a 10.1-inch screen, 8-megapixel camera with Full HD video recording, and dual surround sound speakers. According to what we’ve heard, however, Samsung is using NVIDIA’s dual-core Tegra 2 processor, not a Qualcomm or Exynos CPU, and the display is a TFT not AMOLED-type panel.

We’ve also been told it has 16GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot, and is around 200g lighter than the current iPad despite having a bigger screen (and, supposedly, a smaller bezel). Samsung is, according to the people SlashGear has been talking to, attempting to beat Motorola’s XOOM to market as the first Honeycomb slate, in Europe if not in North America, though we don’t yet know which carriers it has partnered with (if any so far). We’ll know for sure tomorrow.

HTC Thunderbolt is $249 on 2-year Contract, $749 Full Retail at Best Buy

We mentioned before that the HTC Thunderbolt release date was confirmed for Best Buy but did not have a confirmed price at the time. For those wondering still, we now have your answer thanks to the guys at Droid-Life revealing images of what should be a Best Buy ad for next week.

The image shows the HTC Thunderbolt advertised as $249.99 with a new two-year contract through Verizon. Regular price without contract is set at $749.99.

That is quite a huge difference in price and should keep most customers seeking the HTC Thunderbolt locked into the Verizon contract.

Samsung Galaxy S 2 Full Specs Leaked

samsung mwc galaxy1 Samsung Galaxy S 2 may have dual core Qualcomm SnapDragon chip
We’re all really excited to go to Mobile World Congress and check out the Samsung Galaxy S 2 but the rumors are leaking out like crazy. Now, we have a full supposed spec sheet leaked and this says that the Galaxy S 2 will have a dual-core SnapDragon processor.

According to the leaked spec-sheet below from Pocket-Now, the Samsung Galaxy S 2 will rock the dual-core 1.2 GHz Qualcomm SnapDragon processor. A similar processor can be found on the just-announced HP TouchPad.

The specs also suggest that the Samsung Galaxy S 2 will have a 4.27-inch Super AMOLED Plus display with a WVGA resolution, an 8-megapixel camera with flash, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 1080p HD video recording at 30 frames-per-second, 512 MB of RAM, GPS, Bluetooth and more.

All of this sounds pretty on point, although one wonders why Samsung doesn’t use its own dual-core Orion chip. Another issue that makes me wonder if this is 100% correct is the omission of 4G.

The report said the Samsung Galaxy S 2 will have 2G, 3G, HSDPA and HSUPA – notice there’s no 4G in there. From the wording of the invite above, I think it’s a lock that this thing will have 4G LTE support but maybe I’m just reading way too much into a simple invitation.

Regardless, the Samsung Galaxy S 2 will be one of the hottest devices at the Mobile World Congress show but it may not even be Samsung’s best, as the company is also expected to reveal the next Galaxy Tab. With LG set to show off the glasses-free Optimus 3D and the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play becoming official, it will be a great week for mobile fans.

Of course, the IntoMobile team will be on the ground in Barcelona and you can be sure we’ll give you up-to-the minute coverage. Follow all of our coverage at the Mobile World Congress 2011 section.
